Lighting or illumination is the deliberate application of light to achieve some aesthetic or practical effect. Lighting includes use of both artificial light sources such as lamps and natural illumination of interiors from daylight. Daylighting (through windows, skylights, etc.) is often used as the main source of light during daytime in buildings given its low cost. Artificial lighting represents a major component of energy consumption, accounting for a significant part of all energy consumed worldwide. Artificial lighting is most commonly provided today by electric lights, but gas lighting, candles, or oil lamps were used in the past, and still are used in certain situations. Proper lighting can enhance task performance or aesthetics, while there can be energy wastage and adverse health effects of poorly designed lighting. Indoor lighting is a form of fixture or furnishing, and a key part of interior design. Lighting can also be an intrinsic component of landscaping. From Wikipedia under the

I am remodeling a 1930s home with the original plank and beam ceiling. I'd like to put halogen lighting in the kitchen but am not sure what type of lighting I can use. The electrician has suggested track lighting, but i'd prefer something less obtrusive. there appears to be approx. 3 inches of space above the planks. does anyone have experience with this type of ceiling? Asked by mel - Thu Oct 2 23:01:49 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments A. You can use fluorescent lamb, the one that is oblong. You can support the proportional substructure of fluorescent lamb at the planks of your ceiling. Usually, fluorescent lambs transmit a bride white light. Q. this is for an ap bio planning lab. we wanna see how the spectrum of light affects plant growth, so we have a normal light bulb and a black (purple-ish) one. we could only afford fluorescent ones. which plants are easy to keep alive with fluorescent lighting? we have to start with seeds, by the way. Asked by mascorrofactor - Tue Nov 25 04:02:53 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments A. I grow just about anything under flourescents..I will show you pictures of my set up after I answer this..When starting from seeds you want to use a soiless seed starting mix...do not use common dirt for it caries a bit of fungi and some diseases..start your seeds off to a good "sterile" start..You can buy a premixed seed starting mix already prepared..When growing plants from seed you want to keep the lights no further than 4 inches away from the seeds/seedlings/plants... (this is for flourescent lights only)..If you don't the sprouting plants will grow straight up and become "leggy" and fall over..I also put small fans by my seedlings to give strength to thier stems and make them strong..The breeze makes them develop a stronger plant… [cont.] Answered by pcbeachrat - Tue Nov 25 11:50:46 2008 How do I become a lighting designer?
Q. I am considering a career in the area of lighting design, unfortunately there aren't many resources online that provide much information. So I'm wondering are there any schools that provide a specializes degrees in this field. Should I go for a degree in theater with a concentration in lighting? For people who work in this field how hard is it to find a job, and how well does it pay. I'm not looking to become immediately wealthy, but I would like to know I'd be able to support myself with this job. Are there any websites or resources online that will give me more information??? Thanks so much for taking time to help me out! Asked by scasta86 - Tue Sep 11 01:56:20 2007 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments A. Are you talking about specifically designing theater lighting? The University of Colorado was the first to have a program for lighting design. There may be other schools now, I don't know. Most electrical designers and engineers for buildings have to learn and know about lighting design since lighting falls under part of a building's electrical system. There are also more specialized lighting designers who either have a lighting type degree or have a degree in architecture/interior design. I would recommend that you look at Univ of Colorado. Their program takes a more technical approach to lighting design as opposed to an aesthetic approach like architects. You'll be much more marketable. If you email me offline, I can give you contact… [cont.] Answered by prime8 - Tue Sep 11 08:25:18 2007 From Yahoo Answer Search: "Lighting"
